Historic Record Car Baker 'Electric Torpedo' 1902 - Exhibit

This image is part of Ballistic Publishing Exposé 10 2012 Official Preselection.

3D Reconstruction [‘hull’, engine, electric with double chain, complete interiors with batteries] of one of the most famous and iconic record cars in history: the Baker ‘Electric Torpedo’. Here we see the well known second version in white paint. It was the first vehicle which could break the 210 km/h [130 mph] barrier. It was an electric vehicle with a painted oil-cloth bodywork and isinglass window and with a completely new car design style for that period, a car design style which rapidly became a model and an icon for automotive industry. The ‘Electric Torpedo’ was manned by two pilots [a driver and a flight engineer behind him] and was also the first vehicle with seat belts in history. ‘Baker Motor Vehicle Company’ or ‘Baker Electrics’ was an important automobiles manufacturer at the beginning of XX century. The land speed records of 168 km/h [104 mph] and of 210 km/h [130 mph] were established in 1902 and in the following years, but never officially registered. The Original ‘Baker Electrics Company’ Logo with crown is visible at the exhibit. The photos of the exhibit set are [visible on the clear plastic stand and partially on the wall screen]: an original 1902 newspaper drawing of the car and a photo of Walter C. Baker, the prodigious producer of the Baker Electrics vehicles, and the designer/producer and driver of the ‘Electric Torpedo 1902’.
